It’s Earth Day.
Enough with the music drivel for a week – we have bigger issues at hand, folks. The world needs a little help. I have asked, as you may have, how is it possible to help out with the global environmental issues without spending a fortune? How can I help with such a huge, huge problem? Well, I’m glad you asked. I have said it before – baby steps. Baby steps. The carbon footprint that you and I (and the rest of us) create is the killer. Reduce this, and we help the planet. It’s that simple.
As you gear up for the big festivals or trips this year, I simply request that you keep your carbon footprint in mind. One small change by every person in this great country of ours can make a huge difference. Carpool, less bottled water, and buying organic and locally grown food helps – a lot. (And we are coming into my favorite season – the one of road side farmer stands). The reason I mention this is that we have a couple of big shows this week – one is in Phoenix at the Big Red Rib and Music Festival, and then at the Stagecoach Festival. (OK, there’s a little musical self-promotion in here, too…) HOWEVER – If you are planning on coming out, then make an effort to trim your footprint a little. Even one less water bottle helps.
I know there is a bigger picture here : The government has a hand in adding to the problems of pollution, as does big industry, and other countries such as China and India have awful environmental track records. But all of that is changing, albeit slowly. We can keep pushing here in the US to make things better – and lead by example. I want polar bears around in 50 years, don’t you?
